A workshop was held concerning the topic of the Olympic Games hosted in Beijing in 2008 and 2022, focusing on the changes that occurred in China during these 14 years from a number of different perspectives.
The event was moderated by Dott. Federico Roberto Antonelli and Prof. Chiara Romagnoli. A speech was also given by Prof. Camillo Nuti to express his best wishes for the Center.
- From the standpoint of architectural designs, PhD students of the Architecture Department analysed the Olympic Venues adopted in 2008 and 2022, with an emphasis on the different approaches to venue reuse and energy resource management.
- From the point of view of political discourse, students form the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Department of Political Science jointly analysed the elements characterising the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 and 2022 Olympic Games, with a special concern on the historical, political, social and economic elements of change from Hu Jintao to Xin Jinping’s eras.
- From a (morpho)linguistic point of view, students form the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Department of Political Science jointly analysed the official terminology employed in the area of the Winter Olympic Games, highlighting the strategies employed in Chinese to refer to newly introduced disciplines and concepts.
- Also adopting the linguistic perspective are the works of the students involved in the Percorsi per le Competenze Trasversali ed Orientamento project “La Cina in 10 parole”, which was centred on a set of ten words considered as representative of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. Corpus-based enquiries were carried out by the students divided in three groups (Group A, Group B, Group C) in order to gain knowledge on the collocation profile and authentic uses of these lexical terms
- Finally, Carmen Lepadat’s study addressed the lexicon employed in journalistic accounts of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games coming from three different Mandarin-speaking communities (Mainland China, Singapore and Malesia), inquiring the (a)symmetries between the thematic fields therein addressed.
